Living in Arizona is
very different from any other place in the United States. Living in
the heart of the Southwest used to be a chore and you were lucky to
survive the summers. Today, it's been transformed into a desert oasis
that has been developed into the 8th largest and the 2nd fastest growing
metropolitan area in the United States. Arizona is a great place to
live and raise a family.
People in Arizona don't live for the city. We don't live for tall
buildings and an amazing city night life. We live for the mountains
that surround the valley and the sunsets that light up our sky, not
the buildings that create our skyline or the city that lights up our
night sky. Our lives revolve around hiking, families and people. Many
people don't realize the difference when they move here and they become
disappointed with Arizona. They expect Arizona to be similar to Chicago,
New York or Los Angeles. We'll it's not anything like any other city
in the world. We're the heart of the southwest, with beautiful mountains,
rugged cowboys and the most beautiful scenery in the world.
Although city life doesn't define Arizona, we have as many of the
big city things as you could possibly want. Everything from the shopping
in Scottsdale and around the Arizona Biltmore; to having every major
sports league in the United States. Our pride and joy is the 2001
World Series Champion Diamondbacks. They ignited this city with baseball
fanaticism within 4 years of getting their franchise. Our other teams
are the Phoenix Suns(NBA), the Arizona Cardinals(NFL), the Phoenix
Coyotes(NHL), the Phoenix Mercury(WNBA), the Arizona State Sun Devils(NCAA)
and the University of Arizona(NCAA-Tucson).
If you love sports, Arizona is the place for you. In the past 10 years,
Arizona has hosted every major sporting event with the exception of
the Stanley Cup and the Major League Baseball All Star Game. We've
had the 2001 World Series, Super Bowl XXX, 1992 NBA Championship,
1992 NBA ALL Star Game, the Cactus League (MLB Spring training), Fiesta
Bowl NCAA Football National Championship, NCAA National Champion Basketball
Team (University of Arizona), NCAA Football National Championship
Contenders (1996 Rose Bowl-Arizona State University) and The Phoenix
Open PGA Championship Tournament.
If you like your shopping you'll love Scottsdale and the Arizona Biltmore
area. Both of these areas are known as some of the best places to
have seen and to be seen. These areas are world renowned for great
shopping and great food. They are the hippest and trendiest places
in Arizona and are based in rich history. Ronald and Nancy Reagan
were frequent visitors to the Arizona Biltmore and even spent their
honey moon there. Every President has stayed at the Arizona Biltmore
since it's opening in 1927.
Scottsdale is known for it's great art culture and has been established
as one of the greatest art cities in all of North America. The art
culture spawns a great community of small shops and great little restaurants
in Old Town Scottsdale. There is also the world famous Scottsdale
Fashion Sqaure mall, with Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, Coach and all
the famous luxury stores. Scottsdale Fashion Square, is equivalent
to Arizona's Rodeo Drive. It's known as "The West's Most Western Town,"
because of it's deep history of the old western rodeo cowboys. Even
today there are horse shows and rodeo's that go on every year out
at Rawhide and WestWorld.
Tempe is the host city for many great events like the Fiesta Bowl,
the Super Bowl, Arizona Cardinal Football games and I'm sure you recognize
it from the great movie, Jerry McGuire with Tom Cruise. Tempe houses
the third largest University in the Country, Arizona State University(ASU).
With more than 50,000 students and growing, ASU is one of the best
places to go to college and get a degree. Many of the people in Arizona
have gone to ASU and it is considered one of the greatest assests
to the State of Arizona. Tempe has embarked on a new venture that
is sure to make Tempe an even greater city, the Rio Salado Project.
The Rio Salado Project is basically a lake on the north end of Tempe
by the university. The Salt River has run through the city of Tempe
for years, but it really hasn't had water in it for years. The water
from the river has been used to farm the fields of Arizona, so Tempe
officials have built two dams to trap water in the dry river bed and
have developed the "Tempe Town Lake." It is about a 3 mile long lake
in the middle of the city that is now the hottest development spot
in the state. This is a new project, yet it has already been very
successful. |
